IT industry news: Mobile technology 'must penetrate restaurants'

07:33 3rd June 2011

Restaurant should take more advantage of mobile technology to provide a better service to consumers, according to Andris Berzins, chief marketing officer at web-based restaurant reservations and marketing service operator, Livebookings.

"Consumers demand instant access to the services they want 24/7," he said.

"It's important that restaurants respond to changing consumer behaviours and embrace mobile technology to deliver a high quality user experience," he explained.

Mr Berzins added that the Livebookings Restaurant Index, launched earlier this month, shows that "many European markets today are benefitting from mobile to drive online reservations".

He added that mobile reservations have been fuelled by the popularity of smartphones across Europe.

According to the Livebookings Restaurant Index, 6 per cent of all UK online bookings are made on mobile devices, an increase of two-thirds over the past six months.
