IT industry news: Misplaced devices 'cause security threat to businesses'

08:04 29th October 2010

Companies in the UK are exposed to security issues when employees misplace their devices or they are infected with viruses, according to Andy Wright, sales director at nonstopIT, an IT solutions provider.

"You read in the news a lot of people are losing devices. You've also got a lot of people bringing their own devices into the office," he said.

The use of employee mobile devices in the workplace is "a big issue at the moment," the expert added, because they can put viruses onto businesses' IT systems.

Products are now available that can recognise when employees' devices are being used in the workplace and "stop them from working", Mr Wright said.

In related IT industry news, one in four IT respondents said that a quarter of the devices issued to employees in the past 12 months had already been lost or stolen, according to a report published earlier this month by networking provider Cisco.
