The new Microsoft smartphone will provide much needed competition in a market dominated by Apple's iPhone and Google's Android, according to Daniel Grabham, deputy editor of TechRadar.com.
"Better headline features will certainly have more impact as the race between the platforms evens out. Microsoft has promised wireless synchronisation with PCs for Windows Phone 7 for example - that's a feature Apple iPhone users have been asking for ages," he said.
The expert also said it would be interesting to see how Microsoft's smartphone will compete with Apple when it comes to the creation of apps.
His comments emerged as an exclusive report in gadget review website Pocket-lint revealed that Microsoft is set to launch its new mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7, on October 11th 2010.
In other related IT industry news, Nokia announced earlier this month the launch of three new smartphones at a showcase in London.
