IT industry news: Malware 'must be dealt with fast'

Businesses must act quickly to tackle malware, according to Richard Moffitt, consultant systems engineer at Trusteer.

"What we're finding is that attacks happen very quickly – it's an automated process, [and] there are toolkits that allow fraudsters to generate new pieces of malware in minutes," he continued.

He went on to say companies must identify malware quickly, as time is essential to deal with this problem.

"In a number of hours, once an exploit is released, people will be working to take advantage of that and distribute malware and commit fraud," he said.

The expert also added his firm has identified a rapid rise of more sophisticated types of malware.

His comments emerged as CSIS said the source code for the ZeuS banking Trojan is now freely available to anyone online, which makes it increasingly possible that malware will become even more ubiquitous.
