Microsoft's Kinect motion control accessory for Xbox 360 is set to become "the big video game item this Christmas and will significantly broaden the console's audience, according to Market for Home Computing and Video Games (MCV's) deputy editor Christopher Dring.
His comments followed a study by market research group Ipsos which predicted that Kinect will have the edge over Sony's motion controller the PS Move in the US games market this Christmas.
The Kinect is likely to have a similar impact over the festive period when it launches in the UK on November 10th 2010, as testified by the fact it has "sold out its pre-order applications for many of its retailers", the expert said.
However, Mr Dring warned the device may not appeal to all, as "the gaming community at the moment is quite mixed towards Kinect - the titles that are coming out on launch day and the weeks after are all aimed at casual users, with sports games and dancing games".
