According to Richard Sharp, founder of Gadgets and Gizmos, Amazon's new faster, smaller and cheaper Kindle will face stiff competition from Apple's multifunctional iPad.
"The ereader still has its place. Many believe that the ereader's screen is kinder to the eyes and gives a paper feel. Ereaders are cheaper and perform their function very well. I think it will come down to personal preference," the founder of the technology news and reviews website explained.
According to Mr Sharp, the new Kindle's comparatively low starting price, light weight and E Ink technology will need to "diversify". He also said ebook reader manufacturers must come up with new ways of enticing consumers to buy their products to be able to compete with the iPad.
In other IT news, it was widely reported last week that Chinese business newspaper the Economic Daily News believes that Apple is planning to launch an iPad mini in time for Christmas.
