The idea that every single person on the planet will one day have access to the internet is an optimistic concept, according to Andreas Pouros, chief operating officer at Greenlight.
"There is a utopian optimistic thing that everyone has free access to the internet and communications, and that has been the ethos ever since the internet started. That concept is called net neutrality," he said.
He went on to say that the idea of net neutrality is a huge problem for internet providers because it restricts them from being able to provide more services and [change to comma] make more money and fund big projects like putting fibre optics down.
In other IT industry news, Google and Verizon may soon be finalising a deal which would allow Verizon to speed deliver online content to internet users more quickly, for a fee.
Some have backed the idea that some sites, through paying a fee (or other) to Verizon, can gain priority and run faster than others.
