More companies in the IT industry are choosing to use in-house staff as opposed to hiring the services of contractors, according to David Fleming, recruitment firm Badenoch & Clark's associate director.
"Whereas IT years ago was the domain of the contractor, there is a recognition that most organisations want to move towards having a more stable and permanent workforce in their IT provision," said Mr Fleming.
His comments emerged as a report by Computer Economics found earlier this month that the recession had provoked budget-tightened US companies to direct more of their IT expenditure to outsourcing services.
The expert went on to say that UK firms were not following suit and were instead of moving away from a "transactional project-to-project approach" to think longer-term and "more strategically".
Mr Fleming also said that the IT industry is likely to experience a movement of contractors into staff positions.
