An IT industry body has announced the launch of industry-wide standards on cloud computing.
The Cloud Industry Forum (CIF) launched its code of practice in order to encourage confidence, security and transparency within the IT industry.
After a lengthy period of public consultation involving more than 200 organisations a code was agreed that will aim to regulate businesses that offer cloud services.
The survey was completed by a range of representatives from the IT industry including service providers, software vendors, IT consultancies, industry bodies and analysts over a sustained two-month period.
The CIF has been developing the code since October 2009 and it asked for end-users, providers and other stakeholders to download the draft code and provide feedback on it.
Andy Burton chairman of CIF and CEO of Fasthosts said: "We firmly believe that the market needs a credible and certifiable code of practice that provides transparency of cloud services so that consumers can have clarity and confidence in their choice of provider. The market now has that benchmark."
