Search engine giant Google's search box is here to stay for some time, according to Karin von Abrams, a senior analyst at New York-based research firm eMarketer.
The box meets a "clear precise need" for advertisers which Google is "too clever" to do away with, Ms von Abrams said.
"Whenever Google is able to replace the search box, it will be sure to implement a system that ensures the continued health of online advertising," she said.
Her views emerged after an interview published by the Wall Street Journal with Google's chief executive, Eric Schmidt, in which he said his company's search box will one day become out-of-date. The use of search engines is a topic that could be taught in IT training.
The expert went on to say that the use of explicit opt-ins on search engines, such as the ones some UK publishers have experimented with recently, could be the way forward for marketers.
