Google+, the search giant's new social networking site, will allow businesses to benefit from "potentially huge" opportunities for branding and customers relations, according to Rachel Hawkes, account director at consultancy communications consultancy Elemental.
She said that "savvy marketers will already be considering how they can utilize utilise Google+ to extend the social reach for their clients." clients".
The expert said the 'Circles' facility in particular could prove valuable, "by allowing brands to market to really targeted groups of people" and "driving social customer relationships management that much further".
She explained: "As an example, if you are a national brand that sells fashion for women aged 16 to 65, that’s a very wide group of people that you’re talking to at once on a platform like a Facebook page.
"If you have the ability to move the 16- to 20-year-olds in one circle, the 21- to 27-year-olds in another and so on, then the possibilities of relationship-building and targeted sales are potentially huge."
Her comments emerged as Google revealed late last month it was launching the Google+ project, the new social networking website will be seen as Google's latest attempt to take on Facebook.
