Cloud-based voice over IP (VoIP) solutions will become a common sight in the work environment, according to an expert.
Dave Dadds, deputy chairman of the Federation of Communication Services and managing director of Vanillaip.com, said that while this might not be the case among consumers, VoIP has been around businesses for quite some time.
"The pick-up gets greater and greater every year and as businesses realise the benefits that VoIP gives, the whole thing just gets a momentum of its own really," he said.
His comments emerged as David Cargill, a council member of the Internet Telephony Service Providers' Association, said VoIP provides more accessible solutions than the traditional telephony systems.
Separately, businesses adopting unified communications are set to provide a boost for the VoIP equipment market in the long run, according to Diane Myers, directing analyst, service provider VoIP and IMS (Internet protocol Multimedia Subsystem) at Infonetics Research.
