Companies in the UK must take a closer look at the way they are using IT assets in an effort to become more environmentally friendly, according to Andrew Boddington, director of marketing at Return on IT.
"Companies should look at how they are currently using their IT and the power consumed. Have they servers running at below optimum capacity? Can they combine work loads on to fewer servers or even go for virtualisation?"
The expert went on to say that firms like Return On IT act as auditors of current equipment and usage to allow managers to make the right decision on the retirement of such equipment.
Mr Boddington said that equipment set to be disposed of should be removed in a responsible way.
In other IT industry news, Peter Job, chief executive officer at Intergence Systems, a company that builds products in IT, recently said that substantial changes in technology and behavioural shifts can make a difference in the sustainability of a business.
