There has been an early adoption phase of cloud computing, according to Seth Robinson, one of the authors of the CompTIA second annual Trends in Cloud Computing report.
The report showed 32 per cent of respondents said they are currently using infrastructure and platform, an additional 36 per cent said they were planning on using it, the expert said.
"With the percentage of people we see that are planning on moving into infrastructure or platform, we think that really signifies a more complex use of the cloud and companies beginning to invest more of their IT strategy in the cloud or probably, even beginning new capabilities in the cloud," Mr. Robinson added.
His comments emerged as music website Songkick said cloud computing facilities such as Google Apps can be "a valuable business resource".
SMEs globally will be spending US$11 billion (£6.41 billion) on cloud computing in 2011 growing at a compound annual growth rate of 12 per cent until 2015, according to research by Techaisle.
