The IT section of a company is now an integral part of a business as the lines between the IT department and the rest of the firm have blurred, according to James Peel, product manager at Opsview.
"It's not IT and the rest of the business – business and IT have merged and businesses depend on IT across the board," Mr Peel said.
The expert said both management and the IT department must respond to this new change by letting staff make use of cloud services in a free way, but firms should be careful to monitor the way the cloud is used.
Mr Peel said companies need to adapt to this new way of working and stop trying to control everything in a business.
His comments emerged after a recent survey by CompTIA of 400 UK's small and medium-sized enterprises revealed 18 per cent are using cloud solutions, with a further 30 per cent planning to adopt them within the next 12 months.
