Mobile entertainment will likely grow by 15 per cent this year, according to new research published by Juniper Research earlier this month. This represents an increase from $33.2 billion (£20.3 billion) to about $38.4 billion (£23.5 billion), the report added.
Juniper said that the sustained upward trend comes despite sketchy economic conditions, which highlights "both the relative robustness of the mobile content industry as a whole, and the opportunities in comparatively untapped segments".
"It’s possible that we’ve barely scratched the surface in terms of the market," said Windsor Holden, the principal analyst at Juniper Research.
The increase is in part due to the rise of the app store, the expert said.
"I think that – particularly when you start to factor other mobile connected devices, such as tablets, netbooks, handheld games consoles and so on, it’s possible that we’ve barely scratched the surface," Mr Holden said.
