IT industry news: E-learning 'to be impacted by consumer technology'

The rising popularity and expansion of mobile technologies will impact the way people embrace e-learning in the future, according to Dr David Guralnick, president of the International E-Learning Association (IELA).

"The key will be the ways in which mobile technologies are used - they're not always best suited for online courses in the traditional sense, but rather for 'just-in-time' use that can improve the job performance of employees," he said.

Dr Guralnick said that the continued availability of mobile technology should allow such a change. But he went on to say that firms need to understand it is the actual job performance that matters as opposed to how well someone performs on a test.

His comments emerged as Charlotte Wolff, training editor for online HR information source, XpertHR, said online computer training resources are a great tool for businesses who employ a vast number of remote workers.
