Many broadband users could save money by ensuring they are not paying for more than they need, according to Richard Patterson, director of Broadband Expert, a consumer broadband advice site.
"For example if you only want to browse the web, email and use social media then a basic package should be more than adequate and there’s no need to pay for a superfast connection," he said.
"Equally, if you don't download lots of data then you may not need to pay more for an unlimited package," he added.
The expert went on to say that consumers can also access free broadband by using free Wi-Fi in cafes, libraries, bars and other places offering free Wi-Fi.
In other related news, Michael Phillips, product director for Broadbandchoices.co.uk, has said there is still a digital gap when it comes to broadband services between those in cities and rural areas of the UK.
