There is still a digital gap when it comes to broadband services between those in cities and rural areas of the UK, according to Michael Phillips, product director for Broadbandchoices.co.uk.
Mr Phillips said there needs to be more leadership from the government to close the digital divide as Ofcom recently said British rural areas tend to have lower broadband capacity of more customers who get speeds of less than 2Mbits.
The report said this was the case mainly because copper telephone lines tend to be longer in these areas and broadband speeds delivered over these lines reduce with increasing line length.
"In terms of how you fix it, it needs leadership from government [and] investment from government, because commercial organisations will invest in infrastructure and exchanges where they know they are going to get a return on their investment," Mr Phillips said.
"It is up to the government to plug those gaps and it is what we need as a capital economy," he went on to say.
