Cyber attack threats are on the rise given developments in the IT industry but this is something that isn't always recognised, according to Martyn Ruks, technical director at MWR InfoSecurity.
Protecting computers against attacks is going to become increasingly more important, Mr Ruks said.
"The more assets that are put online, the more risk there is going to be. Traditionally, the focus has been around credit card information and using that to commit fraud," he said.
"Any assets that you are putting onto the internet and online are certainly going to be coveted by someone; therefore protecting against attacks is going to become increasingly more important," he added.
Most pressing risks to the security of the UK are acts of terrorism and hostile attacks upon UK cyber space, according to a recent report published by the government entitled National Security Strategy: "A Strong Britain in an Age of Uncertainty".
