07:11 30th September 2011

Content strategy is an area for growth among businesses in the UK as the need for continual social media driven content goes, according to Tim Gibbon, director at Elemental.

"Although the practice of content strategy and the creation of content strategists have been with us for a while, there is much conversation about it in the industry now, largely given the importance that it places upon social media," he said.

He criticised businesses for being "guilty of creating content for sites, brands and/or campaigns that address short-term objectives in pushing one-way dialogue and not the long-term goals required for consistent communications".

His comments emerged as new research from the University of Maryland showed Facebook's "app economy" is responsible for some 182,000 jobs in the US , culminating in between $12.19 billion (£7.75 billion) and $15.71 billion (£9.99 billion) in wages and benefits into the American economy in 2010.
