IT industry developments will allow for even more people to use their
mobile devices to execute payments, according to Howard Wilcox, senior
analyst at Juniper Research.
The adoption of so-called Near Field Communication (NFC) services, which is set to rise in the next three years, will contribute to this growth, according to the company, which provides research and analytical services to the global hi-tech communications sector.
Mr Wilcox said NFC services are set to "open up contactless payments by mobile, to add to contactless credit and debit cards which are becoming increasingly common."
We have seen growing numbers of merchants including McDonalds who have said that they are enabling their POS (point of sale) readers for contactless payments," he added.
His firm expects to witness "ease of use and convenience" as some of the most appealing advantages of using this new payment method, he said.
