Image-conscious businesses in the UK are ready to invest heavily in order to safeguard their reputations online by influencing search outcomes, according to Sam Tilston, CEO of the specialist ecommerce SEO (search engine optimisation) agency.
"Companies will pay huge amounts of money to cleanse both search results pages and the search suggest keywords," he said
According to the expert, companies are aware of the great effect search results can have on sales and brand reputations online.
"Search suggest is popping up with all sorts of things related to different brands, which is creating reputation management problems," he added.
His comments emerged as ForeSee Results, a customer satisfaction measurement company, published research earlier this month which revealed that search engine results, like those shown by Google, are a key influencing force for 13 per cent of online shoppers in the UK.
It showed that consumers responded better to old-fashioned ways of getting them to buy like emails while just three per cent were influenced by advertising through social media sites.
