In order to save between 15 and 20 per cent on energy costs companies in the UK should look into implementing more energy efficiency measures, according to Peter Job, chief executive officer at Cambridge-based Intergence Systems.
The expert said that having a more sustainable business reduces a firm's carbon footprint. He said this was specially important with the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC), the government's carbon credit system.
"So there is a real direct cost saving there, not just from a carbon point of view, but also [in terms of] saving energy," he commented.
Mr Job said calculations made by his company revealed that firms could save between 15 and 20 per cent of their energy costs through employing energy efficiency means across their network.
To save energy [comma] companies can look at aspects of the business like air conditioning. "People don't realise that very often, turning up the air conditioning to a higher level actually saves power," he explained.
His comments emerged after Andrew Boddington, director of marketing at Return on IT, said firms must take a closer look at the way they are using IT assets in an effort to become more environmentally friendly.
