IT industry news: Companies 'should be aware of data leak threats'

Companies in Britain must be aware of the threats involved in data leaks and implement IT developments to protect it, according to Rob Rachwald, director of security strategy at Imperva, a data security company that provides a range of solutions for businesses to protect sensitive data.

Businesses are increasingly aware of employees at the lowest levels of the command chain are trying to trade with it, he said.

Speaking on the sidelines of Infosecurity Europe at London's Earls Court late last month, he said that there was a trend for some employees (generally those outside managerial roles) to breach security through insider trading.

The expert went on to say that although more thorough IT training could help with the matter, "better censors and better controls have to be put in place that makes it much harder to get to, take and leave with the data".

"Insider trading is something that companies are going to have to deal with more and more," he said, citing the recent Wikileaks scandal as a prominent example of data leak.
