Business often underestimate the need of having a strong security system to reduce crime but its importance is key to safeguard a company, according to Adrian Platts, spokesman for the Business Crime Reduction Centre (BCRC).
"Security is a grudge purchase for [Small and Medium Enterprises], therefore they will always be tempted to under invest in the necessary measures to protect their business. The right configuration of security systems is important for protecting a business, and will depend on how the business operates," he said.
The expert went on to say that bosses would often look at ways of cutting costs and may only have a simple system installed. "This can be a false economy," he explained.
Separately, businesses should also beware of cybercriminals who have been recently hiding malware content by using shortened URLs and then tricking internet users, according to Con Mallon, director of Norton, the consumer online protection brand.
