IT industry news: Companies 'can use smartphones to manage accounts'

Smartphones could serve as a helpful tool for businesses to manage their accounts in an efficient and simple way, according to Lawrence Gold, presenter of the BBC's Bank of Mum & Dad.

He said that having the appropriate system set up would allow employees to submit all expense claims promptly, and would also allow company bosses keep tabs in a more efficient manner of their cash flow.

"As an employer myself I want people to claim back for two reasons: managing my accounts simply and effectively - I want people to claim back as quickly as possible so I can manage my cash flow – and if secondly, if they claim back correctly I know exactly where the expenses are going and what I need to do or if I need to increase budgets in certain areas," he said.

His comments emerged as research by Concur revealed that a fifth of employees waste as much as £270 on expenses they don't claim back, with nearly 50 per cent of these saying they don't want to go through the hassle of claiming them back.
