IT industry news: Companies 'aren't profiting from IT'

Companies aren't fully using all the IT tools available to turn internal data into meaningful content, according to Mark Williamson, HR expert and partner at KPMG.

Mr Williamson said there was a gap between the whole breadth of information that it is being capture is being captured by Human Resources systems and how firms are making use of the data and turning it into insightful information.

"I think about the HR director and the marketing director at the board table, and you think about the marketing director who is having a conversation with his board colleagues. That's generally around real rich data, around what is happening in the marketplace, how are our products and services driving into that marketplace and what difference does that make," he said.

He went on to say that there is a "real dichotomy" in that firms are paying a lot of attention to short-term workforce analytics but that they also needed to focus on a longer-term view.
