Some enterprises in the UK don't fully understand certain developments in the IT industry like cloud computing and are put off by it, according to Clodagh Murphy, director at Eclipse Internet, a service that supports the technology needs of the UK's small, medium and micro businesses.
"Small businesses at the moment are focussed on survival to a certain extent, and growing their own businesses. Taking the risk of investing in new technology won't be at the forefront of their minds," she said.
"My advice is to find someone who you trust that can give you good advice," she added.
Widespread adoption of cloud computing could give the five major EU economies a €763 billion (£645 billion) boost over five years, according to a recent report from the Centre for Economics and Business Research.
Security, cloud services and sustainability will be three of the most important trends in enterprise IT in 2011, according to a press release from Ovum.
