IT developments in the cloud service sphere mean there is a need for legislation to protect them, according to Nikolay Grebennikov, chief technology officer at Kaspersky Lab.
He said this was needed because many businesses do not feel comfortable when using such services.
"It's really important to create some legislation ruling what cloud providers should publish and say to customers [about] how they protect their data," he said on the sidelines of Infosecurity Europe at London's Earls Court earlier this month.
"Currently I really believe that we need some non-technical steps and actions to make it work," he argued.
The expert went on to say that while cloud computing is a very popular subject in the IT industry, its use by companies currently raises issues related to protection of private information and access. He added these issues are yet to be resolved.
