Cloud computing will change the way businesses provide their IT services, despite relatively low uptake of the technology, according to The National Computing Centre (NCC).
The comments from the NCC follow research published last week by the London School of Economics and Horses for Sources which found that business executives are more optimistic about implementing cloud computing than their opposite numbers in the IT industry.
The research presented the views of around 1,000 participants, including business buyers, IT buyers, providers and industry experts, as well as the opinions of the non-IT business community and IT executives.
Michael Dean, head of marketing at the NCC, said: "There are some unanswered questions about the use of the cloud, such as providing third parties access to your data. There are still security issues and other risk issues as well, and organisations have to feel comfortable with the level of risk."
Although cloud computing is still in its infancy the technology is set for dramatic growth "as cloud services mature and become more widely available, more reliable and with greater levels of continuity", according to the NCC spokesman.
