IT industry news: Cloud computing 'saves companies money'

07:01 24th September 2010

Advances in the IT industry have allowed cloud computing to save businesses money while keeping up productivity, according to Rob Lovell, ThinkGrid's chief executive.

"Probably most companies with ten staff or above are going to experience either disruption or people not being able to make it in," he said.

"[Cloud computing] is starting to push more and more IT features and services out – in this case, to the cloud – so that no matter where you are, you are part of the office," he added.

He also said that for companies it is a lot cheaper than running from the premises anyway.

The expert said cloud computing allows managers to lower the cost of owning their IT, but they also get the benefit of getting "more productivity out of people who can't make it in."

He said the benefits of cloud computing are particularly relevant now following a series of tube strikes in London earlier this month. A second series of industrial action is scheduled for October.
