IT industry news: Cloud computing 'lets companies avoid snow disruptions'

07:18 1st December 2010

Cloud computing is an essential tool businesses can use to avoid disruptions caused by snow, according to Rob Lovell, CEO at ThinkGrid.

This technology could help to minimise the impact of travel disruption on employee performance and "doesn't need to affect the bottom line", the expert said.

"By giving employees cloud computing services such as hosted desktops and phones that can be accessed from anywhere in the world, organisations can ensure that workers are able to continue to keep working as normal even though they can't get to the office," Mr Lovell said.

He also said that cloud computing services are typically used and acquired when needed in cases of adverse weather conditions, problematic transport or any unforeseen situation that has an impact on a company's bottom line.

Snow and icy conditions are forecast to continue to affect many parts of the UK through the coming week, according to the Met Office.
