Cloud computing is a "very viable" solution for small companies in the UK, according to Phil Wainwright, vice-chairman for non-profit organisation EuroCloud.
"I think they're very viable and I think that a lot of small businesses are now turning to online applications - particularly as a way of fulfilling their computing needs," he said.
"If you look at the market research that's being published now, the ready-made cloud applications that we call SaaS (software as a service) are certainly becoming a big element of choice for small businesses to quickly and cost effectively fulfill computing needs that they find emerging," he added.
Separately, testing cloud computing gradually may be a good way for small businesses to try out the new technology if they are looking to keep costs down, according to Andy Horn, general manager at Easynet Connect.
The expert said businesses should avoid "a big-bang approach to moving to the cloud" and suggested firms "try before they buy".
