Small and medium-size companies will see cloud computing as an increasingly viable option, according to Rhianna Collier, vice-president for the software division at trade body the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA).
"In today's economy it is becoming a necessity. Customers now expect the flexibility and scalability that you get with cloud and SaaS solutions. If you cannot provide this type of service you will struggle to grow your business," she said.
The expert went on to say that firms should look for a SAS (Statement on Auditing Standards) 70 Type II and PCI (payment card industry) compliant provider when choosing a managed hosting provider.
SMEs globally will be spending US$11 billion (£6.41 billion) on cloud computing in 2011 growing at a compound annual growth rate of 12 per cent until 2015, according to research by Techaisle.
