Evolution in the IT industry has meant that cloud computing is now possible in schools across the UK and it is believed having access to it would benefit students enormously, according to Sarah Underwood, magazine and brand editor of ICT for Education.
"It would be a great step forward for education if schools choose to adopt it. There will be some, such as ICT specialist schools and academies, that will use the cloud quite soon, I imagine," Ms Underwood said.
Her comments emerged as the HEFCE (The Higher Education Funding Council for England) said earlier this month it will be providing funds for shared service in cloud computing in British colleges and universities. The HEFCE said the programme will be worth £12.5 million.
The expert said cloud computing would benefit education because it prevents school staff from not having access to information, and maintenance and upgrades are much easier to implement than with traditional systems. She also said it is cost effective as costs for keeping cloud computing are shared.
