The announcement that the government is closing the Home Access Programme for the disadvantaged is bad news for this sector of society, according to Richard Patterson, spokesperson for broadband-expert.co.uk.
The programme, which was designed for people to have wider access to internet, is expected to close when the funding runs out, according to reports on the IT industry. The government will only focus its resources now on families with children with disabilities or special educational needs.
"This cutback may save money now but is likely to be much more costly in the future. Given the emphasis the government is putting on getting people back to work, taking away the tools kids need to develop key skills employers are looking for is short-sighted," Mr Patterson said.
He went on to say that the scheme provided a lifeline to those most in need, which was now set to be taken away.
