Technologies which can generate commercial benefits and at the same time address environmental concerns like global warning can help businesses' bottom line as well, according to Robert Hokin, chief executive of ecoConnect CIC.
"Clean technologies include renewable energy generation, energy efficiency, clean fuels, water purification and management, waste water and treatment, recycling, pollution reduction, IT, advance materials [et cetera] - so you can see it's a fairly broad area and it spans many industry verticals," he said.
The expert went on to say that there are strong commercial benefits for companies to adopt such technologies in the workplace.
He said companies now have the chance under the government's Green Deal to transform the office space into a greener more environmentally friendly place.
His comments emerged as Dan Ilett, editor in chief of Greenbang.com, said the UK government must be more proactive in urging enterprises to adopt the right IT tools to make British cities more environmentally sustainable.
