IT industry news: Businesses 'could benefit from using cloud computing'

07:32 15th August 2011

Cloud computing facilities such as Google Apps can be "a valuable business resource", according to Hogarth, CEO of the music website Songkick.

He suggested that the cloud offered an "efficient, convenient way for [Songkick's] team to stay up-to-date and be able to manage projects effectively wherever they are".

"The cloud makes it cost-effective and easier to use best-in-class third-party software which enables a start-up like Songkick to focus on our core proposition", he added, citing Google Analytics as another helpful utility.

His comments emerged as small companies around the world will spend US$11 billion (£6.41 billion) on cloud computing in 2011 growing at a compound annual growth rate of 12 per cent until 2015, according to research by Techaisle.

"Successful start-ups require an all-consuming focus on finding and delivering a product that consumers genuinely want, and a ruthless exclusion of anything that is not core to the business," Mr Hogart added.
