Companies can be more quicker to react to issues in their industry by adopting unified communications technologies this year, according to Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst, enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research.
The market research and consulting firm, which specialises in data networking and telecommunications, predicts unified communications technologies will be more popular this year.
"That's what we're forecasting. Even though unified communication (UC) has been talked about and sold for a while, most users have yet to experience UC," Mr Machowinski said.
He said the latest developments in these technologies will come in the form of more devices such as tablets and more video.
The expert said technologies such as Microsoft Lync 2010 can improve flexibility at work.
"[Unified communication technology] can [first of all] increase the portability of communication tools that are already used, for example on new devices and new locations. [And] it gives them completely new tools such as desktop sharing, which are useful for distributed teams," he said.
