Bureaucracy in utility companies could threaten the widespread availability of cloud computing, according to Paul Anderson, programme director for infrastructure outsourcing at Capgemini.
A lack of access to power could pose a threat to cloud computing being available on a wide scale, Mr Anderson said speaking at a preview at the newly designed 30,000 square foot, Tier 3 'Merlin' data centre.
"This could pose difficulty, particularly in making cloud computing available. If cloud really goes where it might go, we'll never get half full, because we'll never get the rest of the power we need. So the question we want to get out into the market is that 'excellent power availability' may not mean what you think it does," he said.
In other IT industry news, energy secretary Chris Huhne said that rules banning local councils from selling renewable energy back to the grid would be overturned as of August 18th.
