Internet users must be more aware of the benefits of broadband as an IT industry development, according to Edd Dawson, editor of broadband.co.uk, a broadband information and comparison website.
Broadband, the expert said, is "underestimated" by some online users.
"The more that can be done to show people the benefits, the more likely people are to want to take up the services," he said.
He went on to say that broadband is now more widely available than in the past but often people don't see the benefits of something they take for granted until they are shown to them.
He said unless people saw the positive aspects of having broadband, they won't realise the difference it makes to modern lives.
His comments emerged as ABI Research found in a study that mobile broadband-enabled subscriptions around the world are rising. The firm expects the figure to hit the one billion mark this year.
