Broadband is crucial for enterprises in Britain and it must be guaranteed that there is no divide between companies who can secure access to broadband in their area and those which cannot, according to Michael Phillips, product director for Broadbandchoices.co.uk.
Although commercially-viable satellite broadband could be a great thing for customers, it can often be "prohibitively expensive", Mr Phillips said.
"Broadband coverage should be 100 per cent. It should be a universal obligation. Broadband now is almost as important as [the] core utilities of gas, electricity and water," he said.
So, he said, there is no excuse for anybody not being able to have a fast broadband connection because it makes a difference for companies.
Having broadband for companies has a massive impact on their effectiveness and their performance, he said.
In other IT industry news, Avanti Communications announced the launch of its HYLAS 1 satellite broadband in a bid to offer broadband to communities, businesses and governments around Europe.
