More people increasingly regard having broadband services in their homes
as essential - particularly the younger generations, according to Edd Dawson, editor of broadband.co.uk.
"If you aren't online you are missing out on so many opportunities nowadays, in terms of media consumption, on-demand things like iPlayer [or] on-demand TV that kind of thing," the expert said.
He also said those without access to broadband miss out on finding out the best deals when it comes to comparing product prices, insurance, or any kind of service [and] also government services.
Mr Dawson said it is currently easier to pay for services online, such as road tax, rather than having to visit a local post office.
"It is becoming more and more essential and [important] for some people [who] work at home and rely on an internet connection to carry out their jobs," he added.
In related IT industry news, Michael Phillips of broadbandchoices.co.uk has said broadband customers whose speeds are less fast than the estimate they were sold should be able to change their internet service provider (ISP) without paying a fee.
