The number of older workers turning to computer courses could be on the rise as the nation's over-55s emerge as Europe's most-confident 'silver surfers'.
According to a new study, around 43 per cent of Britons over the age of 55 now use the internet on a daily basis, compared to a European average of just 28 per cent.
While many of these older users make use of online resources to keep up-to-sped with events or to stay in touch with friends and family, with growing numbers of Britons staying in work beyond the age of 65, many could also be making use of online home learning resources to boost their professional skills.
Commenting on the findings of the latest study from Eurostat, Age UK welcomed the fact that Britons are leading the way in getting to grips with technology later in life, though the charity's Helena Herkolts has stated that many could still stand to benefit from computer training courses.
"The challenge remains to enable the six million older people who have never been online before to use the internet," she said.
This comes soon after child psychologist Dr Pat Spungin advised that social networking technology can be a useful tool for bridging the gap between children and parents.
