The government has to find a balance between the interests of rights-owners and internet service providers **[(ISPs)]** when forming policies on filesharing and this is no easy task, according to Paul Brindley, CEO at Music Ally.??
"The government has to find an appropriate balancing act weighing up the interests of rights-owners against those of the internet service providers. This is no easy task given how divergent those views tend to be," Mr Brindley said.??
His comments emerged as research conducted by the University of Portsmouth showed that many illegal filesharers believe they are the 'Robin Hoods of the digital age' and are motivated by altruism and a desire for notoriety.??
The expert went on to say that sending warning letters to filesharers may help to dissuade some people from illegal downloading. ?But he added that such an approach is also likely to be "highly expensive and highly contentious".?
