The developments made in IT technology Apple's iPhone are allowing the handset to compete with Research in Motion's (RIM's) BlackBerry in some aspects of the business segment, according to Heather Mclean, editor at Mobile Business, a mobile trade magazine.
"The iPhone is starting to challenge BlackBerry in a way in the corporate space," Ms Mclean said.
"More companies are switching over to iPhone from more traditionally business functional handsets, like BlackBerry]] and Nokia's Eseries phones," the expert added.
Ms Mclean also said that the spread of the iPhone to the banking industry after it was initially taken up by media companies is interesting. She said it might be explained by employees' need to have a "cool" gadget.
Her remarks followed a report by Bloomberg which said JPMorgan Chase & Co may soon allow employees to use iPhones for corporate email. This would represent the first time companies allow their workers to use a device other than a BlackBerry.
