Consumers will increasingly move towards purchasing items online via their mobile phones, research indicates.
According to figures released by Ovum and Verdict Research, the m-commerce market will double by 2013 as more users comes to trust the technology.
Currently, 11.5 per cent of UK shoppers use their phone to carry out research before shopping, while almost four per cent do so while shopping.
Christine Bardwell, senior retail technology analyst at Ovum, said that the future would see more retailers seamlessly linking the online and in-store shopping environments.
"Retailers will need to decide if they're going to be pioneers in the market and meet consumer expectations, or wait and risk being behind the curve as many were with e-commerce," she added.
Ovum and Verdict Research predicts internet sales through mobile phones will generate £275 million in 2013, caused by a 119 per cent increase in the number of consumers having access to the internet through their phone.
In related news, Apple has announced the release of its iPhone 4, which boasts video calling and HD recording and will hit UK stores on June 24th.
