IT industry 'maturing'

The IT industry is maturing and professionals within the industry will need to adapt, according to reports.

Writing for MyCustomer.com recently, Stuart Lauchan makes the case that business intelligence (BI) and the use of data is likely to grow considerably in years to come and that this will have an impact on many people looking to develop their IT skills.

Mr Lauchan noted that a survey by Gartner of chief information officers from around the world found that they consider BI to be their priority when it comes to developing new technologies.

Additionally, he maintains that BI and the tools associated with it will play an increasingly prominent role in how IT skills and services are utilised by businesses.

"While the bottom might drop out of other technology segments in the face of the credit crunch coming from the US, the BI industry appears poised for healthy growth," wrote Mr Lauchan.

Earlier this year, the European Commission called for more women to gain the IT skills they need to help reduce the shortage of professional computer experts across the continent.ADNFCR-1667-ID-18633600-ADNFCR
