Some of the leading lights of the IT industry have pooled their efforts in a bid to strengthen security in computing.
Microsoft, Cisco, IBM, Intel and Juniper have created a not-for-profit body to help tackle the problem of internet threats.
Called the Industry Consortium for Advancement of Security on the Internet (ICASI), the forum is aiming to promote best practices in four areas: customer security, agility and effectiveness, collaboration and trust, and leadership and innovation.
Commenting on the development, George Stathakopoulos, general manager of product security at Microsoft, said: "To truly improve online security and privacy, the industry must come together through dialogue, collaboration and consensus - and we believe ICASI is a crucial step in that direction."
ICASI is seeking further members at three different levels - founding, charter and general. Interested parties need to be global vendors, manufacturers or providers of IT.
